RONI
MAHLER is a former ballerina who performed principal roles with
American Ballet Theatre and the National Ballet of Washington, D.C.
Currently
the Artistic Associate of Ballet San Jose, Ms.
Mahler was trained by the renowned Madame Maria Yurievna Swoboda
in her native New York City.
Following her performing career,
she served as director of Dance at Kansas
State University in
Manhattan, Kansas, from 1974-1980. Initiator of the KSU Dance
degree program and co-founder of the KSU Dance Workshop, in 1996,
she received the first annual Roni Mahler Award, established
by Kansas State University to honor outstanding effort on behalf
of dance in the Manhattan community.
In 1999, the University
completed the building of four new studios, the largest of which
was designated for ballet and named the Roni Mahler Studio.
Roni
Mahler is the creator of a series of educational materials
devoted to ballet technique, as well as a program entitled “Ballet
Movement For the Athlete”,
which she eventually customized for the Cleveland Browns.
