Maykel
Solas joined Ballet San Jose for the 2005-2006
Season. Mr. Solas started his ballet training at the
Escuela Provincial de Arte in his hometown of Pinar del
Rio and then continued in the Escuela Nacional de Arte
(National Arts School) in Havana, Cuba, where he graduated
in 1998.
During his years at the Ballet School,
he received classes from the most important Cuban teachers
such as Alicia Alonso, Loipa Araujo, Josefina Mendez, Orlando
Salgado, Martha Garcia, Jose Luis Zamorano and he toured
to the dominican Republic.
As a student he also won a silver medal
in the 1997 Ballet Competition of Havana.
After Maykel graduated, he joined the
Ballet Nacional de Cuba where he stayed for 2 years. In
2000 he danced with the Compañia Nacional de Danza
in Mexico City and in 2001 Maykei moved to Peru and obtained
a silver medal in the XIIth International Ballet competition
of Trujillo.
Most recently, Maykel was a Principal
Dancer with the Ballet Municipal de Lima where he has danced
all the most important roles in the complete productions
of Giselle, Swan Lake, La
Bayadere, Le
Corsaire, The Nutcracker and other classical and neoclassical repertoire. He has
toured with this company to Quito and Guayaquil in Ecuador
and to the 1st Ballet Festival of Barranquilla, Colombia
in 2005.
